CONFIRMATION

Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the "sacraments of Christian initiation," whose unity must be safeguarded.  It must be explained to the faithful that the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace.  For "by the sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit.  Hence, they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed."

- Catechism of the Catholic Church 1285

Preparation for Confirmation

In the typical sacramental progression, students wishing to be Confirmed begin preparation in the spring of 10th grade.  Students will attend several pastorate-wide Confirmation classes along with their regular religious education classes.  The other requirements for Confirmation will be discussed during these classes.  Students will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in the fall of 11th Grade.  Confirmation Mass for the All Saints Pastorate is usually scheduled for September or October.

Confirmation for Adults

Adults who were baptized in the Catholic Church but who have not yet been Confirmed are able to prepare to receive this sacrament through OCIA (The Order of Christian Initiation for Adults).  OCIA classes begin in September, and participants are Confirmed at the Easter Vigil.  For more information, click here.
